Finding my voice as an Author

With Beneath Our Stars getting ready to make its way into the world, I’ve been thinking a lot about how much my writing has changed since I decided to sit down and write my first book.

And I can honestly say—I am so incredibly proud of how Beneath Our Stars turned out.

There’s something about this book that feels different to me. It feels like I’m finally starting to figure out who I am as a writer. The kinds of stories I want to tell, the emotions I want readers to feel, and the characters I want them to still be thinking about after they’ve reached The End.

That doesn’t mean I have it all figured out. Not even close. I still have so much to learn, and I hope I always feel that way. I want every book I write to teach me something and make the next one a little stronger.

My Promise Me series will always be incredibly special to me. Those characters were where all of this started. I love those books, and I wouldn’t change the experience of writing them for anything. Each one taught me something new—about pacing, dialogue, character development, emotional scenes, and even about trusting myself enough to tell the story the way I wanted to tell it.

Someday, I plan to go back and tighten those books up with everything I’ve learned since writing them. Not because I don’t love them, but because I do. I want to give those stories a little extra polish now that I know more than I did when I started.

But for now, I want to keep moving forward.

I’m really enjoying writing standalones and having the freedom to create completely different stories. That doesn’t mean you’ll always have to say goodbye to everyone when a book ends, though. Some of my standalones will live in the same world, and characters you’ve met before may just get stories of their own.

And yes… Kassie from Beneath Our Stars is getting her own book next year. ❤️

Before that, I’m changing things up completely. I have a darker, stalker romance planned for January with a Valentine’s Day theme, and I’m having so much fun stepping outside what I’ve written before.

I have no idea exactly where this author journey is going to take me, and I think that might be one of my favorite parts.

Not that long ago, writing a book was just something I dreamed about doing. Now I have multiple books, more characters constantly showing up in my head, and a list of stories I can’t wait to tell.

I’m finding my writing style. I’m learning with every book. I’m figuring out what works and what doesn’t. And most importantly, I’m still loving it.

I’m just really excited to see what comes next.
